Christmas to me is an experience not just an event and decorating your home should be no different.  Being a self confessed Christmas addict I guess you can tell that I take it all pretty seriously (she says wearing her elf ears).

The festive season can insight feelings of joy and cheer but you can also be left overwhelmed as you get ready to host family whilst juggling all of the usual tasks life brings you so I’ve created this list to help you get your home Christmas ready this year.

1. Get Organised

Box up your general decor and create some space for some Christmas goodies.  This will help reduce clutter and give you space to add decor rather than trying to jam it in around your favorite china.

2.Pick a color scheme and get inspired with the many different shades of Christmas.

I find this is a great way to reduce overwhelm and create a cohesive design from your tree to your mantle to your wreath to your shelves.  Here’s some inspiration….

3. Have a Process

Start with the tree, let that set the tone and the theme for your home. Once it’s set up and the ornaments are in place move onto the wreath and then onto other areas like the mantle or side boards or wherever else you plan to decorate.  It can take a while to decorate your home so take your time and reduce mess and clutter by taking a more methodical approach.

Start with the tree.

4. Scents Should be a Big Part of Your Decor

So now your house looks like Christmas, time to have it smelling like Christmas.

You can either light your favorite candle or try your very own simmer pots, they look and smell incredible and they’re great when you have company coming.

Use scented candles, personalise with decor.

5. Don’t Forget the Lights!

Lighting is a big part of Christmas decor and will help you create a cosy, magical atmosphere in your home.

There are so many choices from colorful, cool or warm lighting, you can’t go wrong whichever you choose but I would recommend sticking to one type to create a cohesive flow.

7. Enjoy Yourself!

And finally HAVE FUN! Christmas is all about joy, baking, love, giving, festivities.

Regardless of what your house looks like it’s the joy you bring that will really make your house feel like a home this Christmas.

Time to throw on a Christmas sweater, make yourself a gluhwein, put on your favorite Christmas Carols and get ready to create the ultimate Christmas experience in your home.

Well that just about sums it up – I’d love to hear from you, drop a comment below and tell me what you love about Christmas.
