How To Create The Most Restful, Luxurious Bed

A comfy, inviting bed is something that we can create in our home that can help you get the rest you need to start your busy day.

As a mum of 3 kids under 5, I can wholeheartedly say that sleep is a luxury, something I took for granted for many years.

Regardless of why you may not be getting the sleep you need (that’s a post for another day 😂 ) you should create a bed and space in your room that allows you get the rest you need in the time you have.

Step One – Declutter

An easy way to reduce the clutter and stress in your mind is through meditation, the very act of this allows you to create a quiet, uncluttered space in your mind to relax and unwind. The same principle applies for your bedroom.

If you have clothes everywhere and your bedroom is disorganised and cluttered then this can affect your mood, stress levels and your sleep.

Research shows that cleaning—or the lack of cleaning—can have a direct impact on mental health.

Your health and the health of your house is very connected which is why we often feel energised after a big clean out.

Step Two – Invest in a good Mattress.

It doesn’t matter how pretty you make your room or your bed. If it’s not the right mattress for you then it’s not going to help you gain more restful sleep.

I am not a mattress expert, but I do know what feels good to me, which is why I always say if you’re tossing and turning and you’re finding your mattress is sagging, or you’re waking up with aches and pains, then it may be time to get a new bed.

I’m an avid online shopper, but mattress shopping is one thing I will always do in person. I may still buy online, but there are so many options out there nowadays it’s good to try before you buy.

You want to take your time, mattresses are not cheap, and everyone’s weight distribution and sleeping habits are unique; mattresses will last for years, so select one you love.

Step Three Mattress Topper; Do you really need one?

Unless you plan to clean your mattress weekly (all power to you if you are!) you will want to protect your investment and the longevity of your mattress by adding a mattress topper. I also think they add a whole lot of scrumptious comfort and make your bed super luxurious.

My personal favourite is a wool mattress topper.

Although the cotton side is great for summer I actually keep the wool side up all year round and love how soft and luxurious it feels.

Step Four Sheets

There is nothing better than getting into a bed with crisp clean sheets, am I right?

Whether you love linen or cotton or maybe you’re not sure, check out the Adairs info page to help you find the perfect sheets for you. I personally love the vintage washed linen sheets.

The fitted sheet goes over your mattress topper and fits snug to the mattress – no one likes an under sheet creeping up during the night.

The flat sheet goes on top, you can tuck it in tight like a hotel or leave it loose, I tend to leave mine loose.

Step Five: Quilt & Quilt Cover

I love the weight of a quilt and there’s a lot to be said about Your Quilt Cover

I love a good Goose Down Quilt . Nothing says luxury and comfort like a fluffy, soft quilt.

You will want to consider the TOG or temperature rating of the quilt you choose.

Step 6 Pillows that will make you feel weightless

Layering lovely cozy fluffy pillows will help your bed feel ready to hibernate for the winter in the comfort of your own bed.  I love duck or goose feather &  down pillows because you can fluff them up and sink into them.
