Green Living: Eco-Friendly Home Improvements
As more of us become aware of our environmental impact, eco-friendly home improvements are gaining popularity. By implementing green practices, you can reduce your carbon footprint, save money, and improve the comfort of your home. Here are some practical ideas for eco-friendly upgrades for your home.
Embrace the Sun with Solar Panels
With Australia’s abundance of sunshine, solar panels are a perfect addition to any home. Not only do they decrease reliance on non-renewable energy sources, but they can also significantly reduce your electricity bills. Plus, government rebates and incentives can help offset installation costs.
Solar panels are an investment, and it’s important to compare your current electricity bill with the cost of solar to determine how long until you start to gain savings. If you’re planning to move shortly after installation, you may not see the benefit of cost. As with any investment it’s important to do your homework.
Conserve Water with Low-Flow Fixtures
Australia’s climate, prone to droughts, makes water conservation a top priority.
You can make some changes in your home to conserve water. Installing low-flow toilets, showerheads, and taps can dramatically decrease water usage.
You can also set up a rainwater harvesting system to water your garden or flush your toilets.
Insulate for Comfort and Savings
Proper insulation helps maintain a comfortable temperature in your home, reducing the need for excessive heating and cooling.
This upgrade is especially effective in older Australian homes that may not have adequate insulation.
Choose Energy-Efficient Appliances
When it’s time to upgrade your appliances, opt for those with high energy efficiency ratings.
Look for the Australian Government’s Energy Rating Label to ensure you make an environmentally-friendly choice.
Go Green with Sustainable Flooring
Consider bamboo or recycled wood for your flooring.
These materials are sustainable, durable, and stylish, adding aesthetic value to your home.
Whenever we renovate we always look to reuse and repurpose where we can. Sanding old wood floors is a wonderful way to retain character and reduce waste.
Enlighten Your Home with LED Lighting
Switching to LED lighting is a simple and cost-effective way to improve your home’s energy efficiency.
These lights use much less electricity than traditional bulbs and last much longer.
Bring Nature Indoors with Green Roofs and Walls
Installing a green roof or adding plant walls inside your home not only looks beautiful but also improves insulation, reduces air pollution, and decreases heat absorption during hot Australian summers.
Make Your Home Smarter with Technology
Investing in smart thermostats and home systems can optimize your energy use and make it easier to manage your home remotely.
This is not only eco-friendly but also convenient for busy homeowners.
Taking steps towards sustainable living through eco-friendly home improvements is a proactive way to protect our planet. These upgrades not only benefit the environment, but also create a healthier living space and increase the value of your property. It’s a win-win situation for both you and the planet. So go green and start making a positive impact today!
There are so many ways to make your home more sustainable. What are you doing to reduce your homes footprint?
Happy DIY’ing!

@renowayoflife 🍺✨DIY HANDLES 🍾✨ This is what champagne taste on a beer budget looks like 😂 I searched for the handles I wanted for months, and I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted for my home renovation. Instead, I found some I ‘kind of’ like for $50 a handle. I wasn’t going to pay that, so decided to make my own and I’m sharing that process with you, this video is the first time I have made them and the process I followed. Total Materials cost me approx $135 which is roughly $15 / handle! It’s actually a little less as I didn’t use all of the limewash but I wanted to give you a rough idea.
