Winter is coming!
Time to get the winter woollies out storage and get cozy!
I think we have had a fairly mild summer this year and don’t get me started on all the rain!! But as much as I LOVE the heat I always love when the evenings get cooler and winter approaches.
What excites me the most is creating a lovely cozy bed, I find I sleep so much better in the Winter, do you?
So as we head towards the cooler evening and get ready for winter I wanted to share my tips to creating a super cozy bed that you NEVER want to leave.
And the secret to a lovely, cozy bed is in the layers.
1. Sheepskin Mattress Topper / Under Blanket
You are going to THANK me when you spend your first night on a sheepie mattress topper. Growing up we always had a sheepskin on the bed. They’re so soft and plush and create the perfect pairing to any mattress.
My personal favourite is the reversible Mattress Topper I like to put the sheepskin side up in winter and then use the reverse side in Summer.
2. Sheets
There is nothing better than sleeping on fresh, soft, clean sheets. Your want to be looking at thread count, Thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. Generally, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet, and the more likely it will wear well — or even soften — over time.
I typically like to choose sheets with 500 +. Adairs have a great range of sheets and bedding and if you join their linen club you can get further discounts on items. I personally love the Home Republic Luxury Collection.
3. Don’t forget the Flat Sheet
So you have your lovely fitted sheet placed snuggly over your sheepy underblanket, so what’s next? The flat sheet. I have seen people miss this step but for me it’s an important step in creating that cozy bed.
You will want to fold your top sheet over so put it on upside down – pattern down so when you fold it back you get the nice seem face up.
4. Time for your Quilt
You will usually want to swap out your summer cover for something with more warmth and ‘fluff.’ I love a good goose down quilt.
You will want to consider the TOG or temperature rating of the quilt you choose.
5. Pillows
Layering lovely cozy fluffy pillows will help your bed feel ready to hibernate for the winter in the comfort of your own bed. I love duck or goose feather & down pillows because you can fluff them up and sink into them.
6. Added Layers
You can’t have a cozy bed without a heavy throw blanket, I personally love a Chunky Knit Throw.
7. Tantalise the Senses
I love burning seasonal candles, it feels like winter. Home should be a sensory experience, not just a visual one.
And Finally – Nothing says Winter like a pair of UGGs by the bed.
