How to Find the Best Deals Thrifting – 5 Top Tips

In this blog I’m going to share how you can find the best deals thrifting

You guys know I love a good upcycle and I will always be looking for items in thrift stores or on market place. I’m no expert at the value of antique or vintage items nor could I spot a priceless artifact but there is a lot of value in everyday items if you tunnel your vision a little.

I don’t sell any of my pieces so I’m not looking for flipping value but I want to reuse or upcycle quality pieces in my home – achieving the luxe look on a budget.

What to look for?

One

Look for materials that you know are expensive and you like – the pots I picked up were marble, an expensive material but I picked them up for a couple of dollars and I will share how I style them in a different post

Two

Baskets – who doesn’t love adding baskets to shelves or pantries and use them for storage. They can be quite expensive to buy retail so picking them up second hand is a great way to save.

Three

Books – I love adding a little vintage vibe to my decor and so am always on the look out for old books, I don’t really care for the top of the book but more the aesthetics as I’ll pair it with some more modern items. I will also always check the printing year as you never know, you could get lucky and find a first edition.

Four

Furniture – You will often find some unique furniture at an op shop. My rule is to always look for solid wood pieces unless you’re specifically looking for a vintage veneer piece. There’s so much you can do with wood to make it your own and looking for quality pieces with the dovetail joints is a must for me.

Five

Crockery and glasses – There are loads of unique and lovely glasses and handmade items in the glassware and crockery section. These are great for entertaining and in some cases can bring joy knowing that an item you use every day was handmade. I would be looking for unique sets to add character to your next dinner party or cocktail hour.

Create a space that is uniquely you by adding some vintage pieces, like my upcycled vanity.
