How to Age Terracotta Pots: DIY Home Ideas
In this blog I’m going to share with you how I took cheap terra cotta pots and made them more appealing. This is a simple DIY hack.
I’ve been working on my garden recently and have been wanting to add some succulents. I have a few cuttings from my mums garden that I wanted to procreate so I picked up some terracotta pots. They’re just over $1 each for the small ones so easy on the budget but I just don’t like the look.
If you follow any of my upcycled you will know I like things to be a little more rough looking.
I don’t like to spend a lot of money when it comes to pots, I love potted plants and pots can add so much character to your garden and I love a good upcycle.
This is the first garden I have built from scratch so I’m taking my time and treating it like a house, section by section.
We have 3 small kids and I want to create spaces that will grow with them but also be spaces that Derek and I love. We have a small back garden adjacent to the pool.
This space is taking shape and I will share more as we progress but for today I have a super simple DIY project to share.
How to Texture Terracotta pots
1. Pour some paint into a container
2. Slowly mix in bicarb of soda until you get the desired texture.
3. Using a paint brush dab the mixture onto the pots. You can be as precise or as imprecise as you like.
Plant
Now you’re ready to get planting.
I bought mine specifically to try to procreate some succulents and rosemary so I filled them with soil and added my cuttings.
