Still not sure what the One Room Challenge is then click the link for more information and maybe you could join me next season!
As I reflect on the last week I feel exhausted just flicking through the projects and work….so let’s break it down.
Firstly let’s talk mums kitchen reno. After taking time to prep the kitchen and build the new pantry wall final measurements and the cabinets have been ordered – can’t wait to see them!
Back to painting….This is relatively quick but takes time….if that makes sense ?! Once the machine is set up and ready to paint each coat takes about 30 mins or so.
DIY TIP 1: USE THE RIGHT TOOLS We have always bought the right tools for the job as we have found, through experience, that trying to buy a cheaper alternative or using a tool not made for that specific job costs you in time and quality. It’s an investment but it’s an investment well worth it. You can also hire out professional tools if you only need them once or twice but I’d suggest comparing the price of both.
DIY TIP 2: DON’T RUSH YOUR PREP Your finish is only as good as your prep. Take the time you need to sand, fill, caulk and properly the areas you don’t want painted.
DIY TIP 3: ALWAYS CLEAN YOUR TOOLS – Renovations are physical and they can be tiring both mentally and physically, add in kids and jobs into the mix and you can often leave jobs for another day. I know how this feels but taking the time to properly clean your tools will ensure your investment in them works hard!
Big decisions this week about the final design and pantry concept.
So what about the pantry you ask? We decided to build mum and dad a custom pantry, there’s no point just slapping in a pre made if you don’t need to.
To maximise the counter space in the kitchen we want to design space and a suitable place for all small appliances, larger pots and pans and of course dry food storage….so for me that means going back to the drawing board….or in my case my 3D modeling software
Derek takes to the tools…….
OK deep breath…..
What else have we worked on? Well the plans for our house were approved!!!
What does that mean? The constuction plan is being finalised –
- We had a new property power pole installed
- Scheduled asbestos removal;
- Scheduled the House Raiser
- Oh and dug a big hole where the pool is going – but you will have to wait for another post for that news 😉
And that is how this update will end…..stay tuned for next week
